Yahoo has joined with Google, MySpace, Friendster, Linkedin, imeem and Bebo in building OpenSocial Foundation, which is a non-profit foundation to help and serve as neutral and develop standards to OpenSocial participants. This was launched last year on the track of success of Facebook’s program that allowed developers to build applications to increase the popularity of social networking site. This will encourage technology developers to build applications with an opportunity to reach more than 500 million Web users worldwide. This will pressurize Facebook, which has not joined the network and has own standards to join OpenSocial.
Yahoo has not disclosed which websites will be offered for developers to build applications
but feels the time has come to join the movement.
