Comcast and The Golf Channel have announced that they have launched a new program to bring youth to the heroic story of African-Americans who struggled to find their fair place in golf. The leading cable operator and the sports network have come out with a documentary ‘Uneven Fairways’ which reveals never-before-seen archival footage and stories of the men and women who faced prejudice and endured indignities to play golf at its highest level.
Comcast will host events at area schools and youth organizations in Atlanta, Baltimore, and Boston markets this fall. This event will include a screening and discussion with one of the golfers featured in the film and every child attending will receive a copy of the DVD and Pete McDaniel’s book, Uneven Lies: The Heroic Story of African-Americans in Golf.
David L. Cohen, Executive Vice President, Comcast Corporation said “This is an important documentary and one we’re pleased to bring to many young people across the country, the documentary and the book present a unique opportunity to talk about a difficult chapter in American history and the tenacity of many African-Americans who had the courage to stand up for their rights.”
Page Thompson, President of The Golf Channel said “Uneven Fairways will be one of the most compelling programs we will air in 2009. These are inspiring stories of golfers who overcame great odds just to create a tour where they could compete. It’s a fascinating and important story and we are all proud to tell it.”
