India won the closely fought 8th Commonwealth Bank Series Oneday International against Srilanka in a must win situation for both teams as Australia has almost reached the finals securing Seventeen points out of Five games played. Still, Srilanka has some chance to reach the finals, but have to win every match they play from now. Three matches left for Srilanka and Australia and two for India.
Mahela Jayawardene, Srilanka Captain won the toss and elected to bat and had a shaky start loosing both the openers within three overs. Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara steadied the ship and put on a brilliant partnership of 153 runs before Jayawardene got out for 71. Then Sangakkara batted almost till the end to score a brilliant century and got out on 128, Srilanka set a target of 239 to win in 50 overs.
Indians also started like Srilanka, Tendulkar went without disturbing the scores and wickets fell on regular intervals. Rohit Sharma and Yuvaraj Singh joined to put some partnership and scored some sixty odd runs before Rohit got out for 24. Indians were in trouble and a defeat was on cards, out-of-form Yuvaraj Singh hit a match winning knock of 76. Dhoni did the finishing job as usual and it was a touch and go as the match went till the final overs and Indians held their nerves to beat Srilanka with Five balls to spare.
