DirecTV Fourth Quarter Results

by admin on February 14, 2009

DirecTV has released the fourth quarter results on Jan 10 in an investor call meet. DIRECTV CEO Chase Carey was optimistic for the year 2009 and said that the same growth as of 2008 can be expected this year. DirecTV will have a new marketing plan targeting “middle market” customers rather than its usual high-end customers with its more expensive video packages.

DirecTV has announced that more than 50 percent of its customers are subscribing to high-definition or DVR packages. The satcaster has added 301,000 new subscribers in this quarter from 275,000 the same in 2007 fourth quarter. DirecTV now has 17.6 million subscribers.

Chase Carey also said “We’ll launch a satellite latter this year that will enable us to continue to add to our HD experience or continuing to build on our leadership in sports and add to the richness of our content with events like Friday Night Lights. Our VOD offering will improve in both richness to the offering and functionality in terms of things like faster access and a more integrated experience.”
