DirecTV is also joining the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games broadcast as the satecaster has reached an agreement with NBC Universal. This agreement will allow DirecTV to launch a special video on demand (VOD) Olympics programming package to its subscribers who have the DIRECTV Plus HD DVR or R22 DVR receiver. NBC Universal will provide DirecTV with 10 VOD titles each week, which will include athlete features, Beijing previews, and more.
NBC Universal’s unprecedented 3,600 hours of NBCU Beijing Olympic Games coverage will surpass ABC’s Olympic coverage for the most Olympics broadcast by any network. NBC Universal will present 75 percent of its broadcast Live. NBC Universal coverage of 3,600 total hours of coverage From Aug. 8-24 will be on seven of NBC Universal networks.
NBC Universal will produce more than 500 titles now through the end of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and will be available on DIRECTV VOD through the end of the Olympics in both standard-definition and HD.
