Comcast, Big Ten Network Near Deal

Big Ten Network, a joint venture of Big Ten Conference, a collegiate athletic conference, and Fox Cable Networks, a popular network in USA was launched during August last year. Big Ten Network broadcast more than 35 football games per season, with 41 football games being broadcast on the network in 2007. DIRECTV carried the network during the launch in the basic package and other providers like Dish Network also carried the network. But Comcast and some providers like Charter Communications wanted the network to be placed in sports tier.
Comcast and Big Ten Network are in negotiation to reach an agreement. Media  sources reveal that if the agreement goes through, Comcast will provide a preview in August of Big Ten college football and basketball games in eight states that are part of the college conference. Comcast is expected to place the network in digital tier.
