Todd Brecher Appointed As Cablevision’s Senior Vice President And Associate General Counsel, Business Affairs

Cablevision Systems Corporation has appointed Todd Brecher as senior vice president and associate general counsel, business affairs.

Before joining Cablevision, Brecher worked for eight years at Time Warner Cable Inc., most recently as vice president and assistant chief counsel, corporate. In that role, he was Time Warner Cable’s primary lawyer for all significant mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and other corporate transactions, including the acquisition with Comcast Corporation of Adelphia Communications’ cable systems; Time Warner Cable’s spin-off from Time Warner Inc.; and the company’s investments in Clearwire Communications and Canoe Ventures. Before that, Mr. Brecher held associate positions at various law firms including Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.

In his new role, Brecher will serve as Cablevision’s lead attorney on corporate transactions and other corporate development initiatives, including acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic investments.

Brecher will report to David Ellen, Cablevision executive vice president and general counsel.

Cablevision Appoints Lisa Rosenblum As Executive Vice President, Government And Public Affairs

Cablevision Systems Corporation has appointed Lisa Rosenblum as executive vice president, government and public affairs.
Ms. Rosenblum will report to Cablevision Chief Operating Officer Tom Rutledge and will continue to serve as Cablevision’s chief government affairs executive and strategist overseeing all legislative, regulatory and public affairs matters companywide.

Ms. Rosenblum is responsible for directing Cablevision’s local, state and federal government relations as well as all legislative, regulatory and policy matters for the company’s business units. This includes Cablevision’s Optimum-branded digital video, voice and high-speed Internet services; its Optimum Lightpath commercial telecommunications services; the Rainbow Media national cable networks; Clearview Cinemas; and the company’s local media and programming assets, which consist of Newsday Media Group, News 12 Networks and MSG Varsity.

Cablevision President and CEO James L. Dolan, said “Lisa’s ability to effectively communicate and build support for Cablevision’s position on a number of regulatory and policy issues has helped drive the company’s efforts to ensure fair competition in its marketplace. Cablevision Systems Appoints Tad Smith As President, Local Media Group

Cablevision Systems Corporation has appointed Tad Smith as president of Cablevision’s newly created Local Media group effective from Sep. 1, 2009. Smith will Local Media group operations and report to Cablevision Chief Operating Officer Tom Rutledge. Smith will also oversee both the News 12 Networks, headed by Patrick Dolan, president, and Newsday Media Group, headed by Timothy Knight, president and chief executive officer.

Smith, before joining Cablevision worked for Reed Elsevier Group PLC for past nine years and while resigning served as chief executive officer of the company’s U.S. division – Reed Business Information (RBI).

Before RBI, Mr. Smith served as senior vice president of e-commerce for Starwood Resorts and Hotels Worldwide, where he was responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive global Internet strategy for the company and its world renowned brands, such as Sheraton, Westin and St. Regis hotels and resorts.

Cablevision Adds Eight Networks on Free Video On Demand Lineup

Cablevision Systems Corp. has launched eight new networks on its Video On Demand (VOD) library, which is available free to iO TV subscribers. Cablevision with more than 2.8 million iO TV customers, more than 91 percent of cable customers are iO TV digital cable customers offers free On Demand programming that is accessible at no additional cost for digital customers with a set-top box through the Free On Demand menu on the iO TV user interface. Big Ten Network Signs Carriage Deal With Cablevision

The Big Ten Network signed a carriage deal with Cablevision Systems Corporation and the sports network has been added in standard and high-definition in the cable operators programming line-up in the New York City borough of Brooklyn and The Bronx on June 23. Big Ten Network is available on iO TV Sports Pack on channel 413 in standard definition and on channel 720 in high-definition.

The fifth largest cable provider in the USA recently launched 30 HD channels to reach 100 HD channel mark will add the sports network in Westchester County and Connecticut on June 24 and in Long Island and New Jersey on June 25.

Comcast And Charter Enters Deal With ESPN To Broadcast Southeastern Conference Events

ESPN has signed an agreement with Comcast and Charter to deliver Southeastern Conference event. Comcast regional sports network and Charter Sports Southeast will broadcast six football games, 20 men’s basketball contests, 16 women’s hoops tilts, as well as 50 Olympics sporting events every year starting from 2009-10.

Verizon’s FiOS TV Delivers 100 High-Definition Channels To New Jersey Subscribers

Verizon Communications, headquartered in New York has announced on Tuesday Aug. 12 that it’s now offering 100 high-definition television channels to subscribers in North Jersey. Verizon is now offering consumers more HD than Comcast or Cablevision in this area. These new 100 channel line-up in offered in northern New Jersey and subscribers in southern New Jersey will receive these new HD channels very soon.

Verizon’s subscribers in Northern New Jersey now have more than 500 HD choices available at any time as they have 400 HD VOD titles offered each month and also 100 high-definition channels. Verizon also plans to offer more than 1,000 HD VOD titles in this area by year-end. Apart from these HD offerings Verizon has launched seven standard definition channels. The new SD channels available are RFD TV, Reelz, Current TV, Veria TV and WAPA TV.

“Verizon’s commitment to HD leadership is about more than just the large number of HD titles we offer; it’s also about picture quality and providing a wide diversity of content,” said Terry Denson, vice president — FiOS TV content and programming. “In New Jersey, FiOS is delivering an incredible range of programming that’s global in scope.”
