With Crude oil prices soaring up and also to reduce carbon emissions, scientists and researchers are trying to find alternatives to crude and lots of research is going worldwide. There was a similar test done at London last week. A commercial flight flew from London to Amsterdam powered by bio-fuels. Without any passenger, A Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet was tested by bio-fuel mixed with kerosene.
The fuel used was babassu oil, which was extracted from babassu tree nuts and blend with coconut oil. Richard Branson, Virgin Atlantic chief greeted the show and said that the new option is proof for some alternatives to the traditional fuel. He also said that this will reduce the carbon emissions and can become the fuel of the future.
There are different versions from the environmentalists that these fuels are not the substitute of the existing fuel used and this would have a major impact on global warming as lots of raw land would be cleared to produce the bio-fuel raw materials and will end up with emition of greenhouse gases.
